MACHUPICCHU

Geographic Location: The Inca city of Machu Picchu is located at 13º 9′ 47″ South Latitud and 72º 32′ 44″ west longitud. this is part of the distric of the same name, in the province of Urubamba, into the Cusco Region in Peru.

Temperature: Rainy during the summer months (from november to march). and very Sunny between may and september, but you have to be ready to have some showers. The temperature could get to 27º C (80 º F), while the minimum rarely descend to 6º C (42º F).

Access: It is located to 3 and 1/2 hours travel from Cusco (Cusco – Ollantaytambo: 1 and 1/2 hours by bus then Ollantaytambo – Machupicchu: 1 and 1/2 hours by train); from this town we take 25 minutes bus to the archaeological site, also you can access by the famous Inca Trail (4 days of trekking) and others alternative routes like The Salkantay Trek (5 days Trekking) and the Inka Jungle (4 days Trekking) these trails first arrive in Aguas Calientes.

The city of Machu Picchu is the department of Cusco’s most important tourist attraction. Re-discovered to the world in 1911 by the American explorer, Hiram Bingham, this city is considered to be one of the most extraordinary examples of scenic architecture in the world.

The closer town to this wonder of the world is Aguas Calientes or Machupicchu Pueblo (2050 m.s.n.m.) this is located at the bottom of the river bank of the Aguas Calientes river and the Urubamba River, to this town arrives all the trains and the 100% of tourists, this town is more touristic than Cusco, you can find all kind of facilities as Hotels and hostels, restaurants, coffee shops, markets, internet cabines and so on; The town is called Aguas Calientes because there are a natural hot springs, those are visited every day by hundreds of people; you have to know that this is a small city where you will not find a car or taxis, all the street is pedestrian, the only cars are the buses that go and back to Machupicchu; from this city you have to take the bus to go to Machupicchu (25 minutos).

Since july of 2011 The Peruvian government has a website which allows you to make your reservations of the entrance tickets of Machupicchu and pay them on line for the dates you decide, now, there are a limit of spaces available per day, here you have the rates:

Entrance tickets to any of the routes are not sold in the access control. Remember to buy them in advance of your visit. Purchase your e-ticket online with your Visa or Multired card. You can also buy it in authorized outlets by Visa, Mastercard or at any window of the Banco de la Nación. The visitor entrance to the Monument will be from 06:00 to 16:00 hrs. and time-out until 17:00 hrs. with a capacity of 2500 visitors per day. From July 15th, 2011 there are new entrance tickets for the route Machupicchu – Waynapicchu – Temple of the Moon and Machupicchu – Machupicchu Mountain. You may not enter these areas without this ticket. The maximum income is 400 visitors per day, divided into two groups of 200 people. Hours of admission are from 7:00 to 8:00 hrs. and 10:00 to 11:00 hrs. for each routes
